Around the Meadery
Enjoy this look at our Starrlight Mead buildings.
The New Meadery
Pictures of the construction from 2018 for the new meadery. We moved into The Plant on Lorax Lane, joining the Chatham Beverage District! Scroll through the gallery below to see the progress!
A timeline of photos of the progress! Hover over an image to see our comments and the dates as the meadery grows!
A view south of the new site.
The new Mead Hall will be up the hill from this parking lot, just past the trees.
12/03/17 - lots of helpers to get the new sign up
Ben and Becky with the new "Coming Soon" sign.
12/06/17 - They've cleared the bushes and graded the land! It looks bigger without all the extra trees!
You can see in this closer picture that there are flags marking the corners of the buildings. The Production building will be in the right foreground of this, the Mead Hall on the left behind that.
12/17/17 - You can see that there are things going on, but it's still hard to see what from the road.
These holes are for the footings that will hold up the main Tasting Room floor.
12/23/17 - A cement truck has been by.
They filled in the footing holes with cement. The blocks will go on next to hold up the floor.
This is for the foundation under the offices and event space. The space looks small because the trench is big! (Becky stood in "her office" and misted up a bit!)
12/31/17 - Blocks are starting to rise above the grade level! It was so exciting to see it moving UP!
The boards are in place for the foundation of the Production building! This building will be finished quickly, since it's a metal building.
The bricks are in place for the footings of the Tasting Room and the support for the offices and event space in the background.
1/7/18 - Not much done due to low temperatures. Next week!
1/13/18 - Rain this week made it muddy, but warmer temps allowed more concrete work.
Footings for the tasting room are finished. You can see the cutout for the fireplace!
They've poured the first concrete for the foundation of the Production Building.
2/10/18 - The foundations for both buildings were filled in with dirt, tamped and covered for the rain.
2/14/18 - Happy Valentine's Day to Ben! That is his building delivered and just waiting to go up!
2/24/18 - After many weeks of waiting, the foundations for both building were poured!
The Tasting Room building all ready to start. The foundation is for the offices, restrooms and private event space.
3/04/18 - So exciting to see what's happened! The site has been leveled and the Production Building is going up!
A shot from the SE corner of the Tasting Room looking up the hill to the Production Building.
Looking west out of the Tasting Room building, this will be the "backyard"! Lots of room for gatherings, Mead Day and movies on the lawn.
3/24 - Production building coming along in the foreground, and framing has finally begun on the Tasting Room building in the back!
The wrap-around porch is not in yet, but they've started framing the front wall of the building.
On the right, offices, restrooms and the private event space are framed in. The big space in the middle will be the Great Hall.
Looking up the hill (west) to finally see the Mead Hall taking shape!
4/1 - Looking south from the road. Pretty blue trim on the Production building. And a roll up door!
Looking north from the "backyard" behind the Mead Hall at the back of the Production building. Lots of space for events!
4/3 - A huge crane showed up to put the trusses on the Mead Hall! Amazing! Photo courtesy of Thomas Vincent.
And the finished shot of the trusses! Photo courtesy of The Plant
4/08/18 - The roof went on and it’s starting to look like a “real building”.
Starting to get plywood on the walls and roof. Still hard to tell the size with all the supports up!
4/13/18 - Getting the walls and roof finished on the Mead Hall! Production building got windows too!
They’ve started adding on the porch!
4/18/18 - It’s actually looking like a porch!
Looking south in the Great Hall toward where the big fireplace will be!
Looking north toward where the Tasting Bar will be in front of the alcove.
4/18/18 - We love how much it changes each time we show up!
Looking like we can almost start hanging out! We’ll bring the drinks!
Looking up the hill at the Great Hall! We love this shot, it looks so amazing!
4/22/18 - We got windows and doors this week!
Can you imagine the little tables and a few rocking chairs on the porch? We can too!
4/22/18 - This was a busy week. We had the walkthrough for electrical and talked with the internet folks.
You can see Ben’s office/lab over on the left side and the place where the tanks will go on the right. Lots of room!
In front of the windows is where the tanks will go with lights shining on them as you drive up!
From the north end of the porch looking south toward the fields.
Looking at the area where the Tasting Bar will be. The doors on the left are to the Private Event Space.
Great Hall waiting for it’s fireplace!
This room will be available for “meadings”, parties, and events. It will hold about 25 people.
Looking east on the back side of the building at some of the Chatham Beverage District buildings.
Looking up the hill from the parking lot, you can see the building rising behind the trees!
5/5/18 - They’ve started putting siding on the building! Ironic that it’s “honey” colored! (Not the finished color!)
Love this shot looking up the hill at the building! Shows off the awesome porch!
Woohoo! They’ve started putting in the big fireplace!
5/12/18 - You can’t see much change from here, but there is a lot happening inside - electrical and plumbing are going in!
They finished the siding on the porch area!
We attended an event at the Plant and got to see just how pretty the new building looks up on the hill!
5/27/18 - It doesn’t look like anything has changed here, but that new street pavement has our hearts singing!
And the newly paved parking lot! Woot! No more losing your car in a pothole!
Latest inside shot of the Great Hall. Fireplace insert is finished, some joists are reinforced for the new beams, and the duct work has shown up.
6/12/18 - Front stairs were finished this week. There will be a walkway to the parking area.
6/16/18 - We got “siding” around the foundation. Looks so great!
They put up the ceiling on the porch. That view is going to be so great from a rocking chair or bistro table!
The view from the parking lot isn’t as great as I’d hoped. We may need to thin the trees a bit. We’ll see after it’s painted!
The electricians finally got all of the electrical roughed in and inspected. Can light, ceiling fans, and track lighting are all accounted for.
7/01/18 - The beautiful blue color has started going onto the outside of the Tasting Room building!
You can see the blue going up on the backside of the building.
Dry wall has gone up in the tasting room! This is the south, fireplace side, of the room.
And the north, tasting bar side.
7/06/18 Paint is almost finished outside. Still some trim to do.
I just love this view more and more!
We showed up today to be surprised that the first coat of paint is going up! (It’s so pretty!)
The next day the entire room has it’s first coat of paint. They’ll do the trim on the windows next, then second coat.
This blue is called “Blueberry Muffin”! How appropriate for the space that will soon hold morning meetings and bridal showers!
7/21/18 Trim is finished from this side.
And you can see where they’ve got more of the trim done by the stairs.
We chose a Honey Yellow for the front door to stand out against the blue!
The beams on the ceiling went up! It’s amazing how much it changes the room.
Not sexy, but necessary! Bathroom fixtures when in this week!
We’ve been waiting a long time to see this go up! Custom ordered chandelier. It has glass pieces that look like pillar candles still to go on it.
8/21/18 - The stairs and walkway to the front steps finally went in this week! Love the look!
A better look at the new walkway from the main parking lot. We’re debating whether it should have chains like a drawbridge!
Becky has been waiting for this day for a long time now! And, boy oh boy, that stone looks amazing!
The finished fireplace stone! It looks so good! It will have a wooden mantle over it that will match our new tables!
